Monument record MDO7397 - Corfe Castle

The Keep of Corfe Castle located in the Inner Ward, a gtreat rectangular tower (43 ft by 48ft) of wide jointed, well wrought masonry. The whole of the North side and much of the East and West sides have been destroyed.

‘Miscellaneous discoveries at the castle, Corfe Castle.
Mr P. A. Brown has deposited in the Dorset County Museum, and in the National Monuments Record of the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments, copies of his notebook describing, in brief, with sketch plans, a number of small excavations and observations made by him at Corfe Castle in the ‘fifties. The sites range from features near the curtain walls of the first ward, to the Keep.’

‘CORFE CASTLE
L. J. Keen observed laying of new drains through outer gate and over bridge. A cobbled surface was seen at about 25 cms below present ground level.‘
