Full Description

Flint flakes and scrapers occur in the field to the west. … Excavation S. of the field wall in 1967 … There was evidence for a flint industry of Mesolithic character in the vicinity. <1>

During excavation of the IA/RB shale working site at Newfoundland Wood, artifacts of a Mesolithic aspect were found in the soil above the Later prehistoric levels, indicating soil creeping down from a nearby Mesolithic site on higher ground. Implements seen include a pick of coarse chert, 4 or 5 convex scrapers, 2 borers, about 24 retouched flakes and about 12 waste flakes. <2>
