‘Smedmore Hill. Occupation debris and waste from manufacture of shale armlets were found after pipe-laying in 1956 above 500 ft contour near earthworks of a settlement. The material, mainly from about 70 yards S.E. of the earthworks consists of Iron Age ‘A’ ware, samian, 3rd or 4th century coarse ware, several shale armlet cores of Calkin classes A, C and D, and a flint lathe tool.’
