Full Description

WhiteWyaAn extensive group of linear and curvilinear banks and ditches are visible as cropmarks and earthworks on aerial photographs (1-5,7) and Lidar imagery (6) of the fields surrounding Chideock Farm. They are considered likely to be the remains of an Iron Age field system. These features were digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset) and the Wild Pubeck Mapping Project. The most recent comprehensive aerial images available to the project show that a majority of these features have now been plough-levelled, although some still remain as upstanding earthworks towards the northern part of this area.

The possible later prehistoric field system described above in (1-7) is visible continuing to the east as cropmarks on aerial photographs of the 1970s. The earthworks consist of: small sub-square and sub-rectangular fields defined by banks; and possible trackways. (2, 7-8) These features were digitally plotted as part of the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
