Summary

A circular mound is visible at this location as a low earthwork on Lidar imagery. It is considered likely to be the remains of a late prehistoric round barrow. It is one of six potential barrows located in this vicinity (MDO7245-49 & MDO7279).

Full Description

A probable barrow, too ploughed down to determine type, situated in arable on the north-facing slope of Chaldon Down. Diameter approximately 34.0m. height 1.0m. It is crossed by a fence with that part north of the fence completely ploughed out. There is no visible ditch. Discovered during field investigation. Surveyed at 1:2500 on MSD. (Barton 1980).

A circular mound, approximately 20m in diameter, is visible at this location as a low earthwork on Lidar imagery (2009). It is considered likely to be the remains of a late prehistoric round barrow. It is one of six potential barrows located in this vicinity (MDO7245-49 & MDO7279). This feature was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset). It is also visible as a cropmark on one of the most recent comprehensive aerial images available to the project (Google Earth 2005).
