Summary

Possible barrow located on the crest of a spur falling south from the coastal ridge. It has possibly been excavated and lies against the 'Celtic' field lynchet immediately above. A small circular mound is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of The Warren. It is considered possible this could be the remains of a late prehistoric round barrow. A hollow extending from its south-east side towards its centre may be the result of excavation.

Full Description

'A' - SY 79288094. A spread mound, possibly a barrow, 21ft diameter x 11/2ft. High situated on the crest of a spur falling south from coastal ridge. The mound abuts the 'Celtic' field lynchet immediately above (SY 78 SE 14) and has possibly been excavated. <1>

A small circular mound, approximately 6.3m in diameter, is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of The Warren <4-5>. It is considered possible this could be the remains of a late prehistoric round barrow. A hollow extending from its south-east side towards its centre may be the result of excavation. A similar feature is located 38m to the south (MDO7253). This feature was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset). It is not visible on the most recent comprehensive aerial images available to the project.
