‘A possible Romano-British pottery kiln site at Big Wood, near Shipstal, Arne: SY(30)/97608843. Mr Brown reports an addition to the list of possible sites of Romano-British pottery kilns near the shores of Poole Harbour [Footnote: Cf. Proc., 73 (1951), p. 89; 74 (1952), pp. 95, 96]. This is in a narrow dip immediately west of Big Wood, near the village of Arne. Romano-British sherds and red ashy soil occur in rabbit burrows mainly in the centre of the dip. The sherds are reddish-buff in colour, and include the common plain-rimmed platter, the flat-rimmed bowl or ‘pie-dish’, and upright-necked and everted-rim jars.’
