Full Description
“Many years ago, when the gravel pit near Culpepper’s Dish was being worked extensively two or three ( what were described as unpolished flint axes) flint tools were found and were sold for 2/6d each to some unknown person. One of them was beautifully worked.” <1>
From the directions given by Mr Topps the gravel pit was located and the centre surveyed at SY 8145 9282. The pit showed evidence of having been worked recently. There were no surface finds. There is no indication of a gravel pit at this spot on the OS 6” edition of 1902. <2>
