Full Description
At SY 82499434. Air photographs <1> show the soil or cropmarks of two parallel ditches, both quite narrow and perhaps 2.0m. wide, forming half of an apparently squarish enclosure approximately 23m. across internally and 38m. overall (see illustration plan). No entrance is visible in the surviving half and there is no trace of the earthwork on the ground, currently under pasture.
The plan and situation, on a fairly level chalk ridge, is not incompatible with a prehistoric homestead enclosure (cf. SY 69 NW 23, middle Bronze Age and SY 89 NW 6, unclassified but probably prehistoric). <2>
Enclosure 23 metres across visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs taken in 1980 and 2002. Possibly prehistoric.
Cropmarks of a partial double-ditched enclosure are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs of 1980 <1> to the south east of Kite Hill Plantation. The cropmarks consist of two curvilinear ditches measuring up to 1 m in width. The ditches cover a semi-circular area, but may be the remains of a circular enclosure, formed of concentric ditches. The features cover an area measuring 38 m by 22 m. This feature was digitally plotted as part of the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
