Full Description

A park is shown immediately south of Affpuddle on Thomas Gerard's map. No other reference to a park here has been found apart from a field named "The Park" in the Tithe Apportionment which is situated ½ mile south of Affpuddle church, on the west side of the B3390 road and immediately north of Sares Wood (at SY 797925). Various banks can be found in and around Sares Wood, but none have the characteristics of a Medieval park bank; lengthy examination of the wood, neighbouring hedge lines and parish boundaries suggested very strongly that no embanked Medieval park had existed in the locality. There is also no evidence to suggest that this was the location of the lost Mansham Park. <1>
