Summary

A bowl barrow recorded as being around 32 feet in diameter, with a mound about 2½ feet high and encircled by a ditch. The barrow is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of 1946.

Full Description

Surveyed at SY 8174 9198 is a heather covered mound with a diameter of 10.0m and a height of 1.1m. It has no surrounding ditch, and there is no trace of mutilation. Probably a bowl barrow. <1>

SY 8173 9199. Bowl barrow, 11 paces diameter and 2 1/2 ft high in Starmoor Plantation. <2>

SY 8174 9197: damaged by forestry ploughing, diameter 11.0m, height 0.7m, no trace of ditch. Resurveyed at 1:2500 on M.S.D. <4>

The barrow described above is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of 1946. The barrow is sub-circular in shape and measures approximately 9 m in diameter. The surrounding ditch measures approximately 1 m in width. <6> This feature was digitally plotted as part of the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
