Full Description

SZ 0615 9295. A Palaeolithic axe was found in the garden of 27 Winston Gardens, Branksome. Weight=780g; length=212mm, breadth 84 mm. A large flake had been detached from the butt some time in antiquity. <1>

Palaeolithic axe of cream chert/flint. Wight 780 g; L. 212 mm; B. 84 mm; T. 56 mm; B1 52 mm; B2 79 mm; L1 73 mm. B1/B2 = 0.658; B/L= 0.396. A large flke has been detached from the butt of th eaxe in antiquity. Found in the garden of 27 Winston Gardens, Branksome by Mr G. R. Shepherd (SZ 06159295). The dimensions quoted use the system by Roe (1968). This area at the head of the Bourne Valley has produced many axes.
