Summary

A hoard of five Neolithic polished flint axes were found in 1930. They were discovered two feet below the modern ground surface by Messrs Stoke Bros, builders, during the construction of new houses opposite Hamworthy Schools. Four of the axes were subsequently sold to a private buyer. The fifth is in Poole Museum.

Full Description

Hoard of five polished flint celts found 1930. One is in H.P. Smiths collection in Poole Museum. <1>

Found two feet below the surface by Messrs. Stoke Bros., Builders, when they were constructing new houses opposite Hamworthy Schools. <2>

Four of these celts were sold to a private buyer. The fifth celt, classified as Neolithic, may be seen in Poole Museum. Siting agreed. Site of find now built over by modern property. <3>
