Summary

Acheulian handaxes recorded by Bernard Calkin from Buddens Pit. Palaeolithic implements found in Budden's Pit include 39 handaxes and 81 flakes as well as other flakes. The site is an extensive disused gravel pit. Lower Palaeolithic material including 155 handaxes, 5 roughouts, 2 cores, 281 flakes and 2 miscellaneous objects were recorded from Budden's Pit, Canford Heath, Canford Magna and Red Gravel Pit.

Full Description

(Area centred SZ 031970) Palaeoliths found in Budden's Pit, now in the Calkin collection at the British Museum. <1>

The Palaeoliths were all of flint and of Acheulian type and were generally classifiable as handaxes. The site is an extensive disused gravel pit. No finds were made during field investigation. <2>

Finds from Budden's Pit include 39 handaxes and 81 flakes as well as other flints. The finds are now in the British Museum. <3>
