Summary

A bowl barrow destroyed by gravel extraction. The barrow is visible on 1940's aerial photographs and was digitally plotted from these by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Full Description

(a) (SZ 02539641) Diameter 31ft. Height 3ft. Ditched, unopened. <1>

A: A furze and bracken covered bowl barrow, with a ditch. The mound has a diameter of 8.0m., and a height of 0.5m., but has a flat top. The surrounding ditch is 1.0m. Wide and 0.1m. deep. <3>

The barrow is visible on 1940s aerial photographs and was digitally plotted from these by the Dorset Stour NMP project. The feature is poorly defined but is visible under low scrub as a mound approximately 6m in diameter within a 1m wide ditch <7>. Current Lidar imagery shows the extent of modern gravel extraction but the barrow is not visible <8>.
