Full Description

A Neolithic amulet of ground greenstone in the form of a miniature axehead with hole for suspension, found near the church at Preston on 1924. Given by F S Merritt and seen in the Dorset County Museum. <1>

(SY 70668292). The late Mr F S Merritt resided in Preston for many years before 1939 and rented a small piece of land for gardening near the church. "I have no knowledge of this particular find". <2>

Mr Bailey pointed out on the ground the plot of land, referred to in authy 2, which in all probability is where the amulet was found. There were no further surface finds. <3>

Type 11a axe. Length 6cms, Width 3.4cms, and 1.3cms thick. <4>
