'Preston Roman Pavement … Much Romano-British pottery has been found in the neighbourhood of this pavement, in the adjacent garden, in the meadow, and in Preston churchyard, as well as many coins dating from Gordian to Postumus, a period of about 30 years, in the 3rd century from A.D. 237 to 267. It is important to notice that Postumus was an Emperor of Gaul, styled Germanicus Maximus, who surrounded himself with a Gaulish court, and with artificers of great merit.'
