'BROADWAY (SY667320) During road widening operations at Lorton Farm, A.J. Boulter and B. Squibb found medieval and post-medieval pottery and a possible metalled floor. Features recorded in section might have been pits or drainage ditches. Finds are held by A. Boulter pending transfer to an appropriate museum. Notes are deposited in Dorset County Museum.'
Hewitt, I, 1996, Letter from Iain Hewitt, undated but received on 7 April 1996 (Verbal communication). SDO20712.
‘I am sending you copies of the contents of DCM Archive (Places) Weymouth, Bo 2, Item 35. In fact, it relates to two ‘watching briefs’ undertaken by the BEAM Group (?!) in 1978. … Lorton Farm. The second site is one that I think you have not got unless it is a misplaced 456. The description of the site in the text suggests to me that it is in the position marked in red on the attached copy of the SMR map. This would make it at SY 6672 8305 and not SY 667 320 as given in the Proceedings by Boulter & Squibb (the second element of the reference is impossible in this location and probably represents a typing error). No map of the plan was provided in this instance.’
