Full Description
Four round barrows at Northdown Barn consist of: ('A') Ditched bowl (70798474) 80 yds. S.S.E of Northdown Barn. Diam 54ft. ht. 3ft, with ditch 12 ft, wide and 1 ft deep. Markedly flat-topped, and probably disturbed. On North and South, ditch overlain by lynchets butting against mound (see SY 78 SW19); and also dug into on S, adding to 'causewayed' appearance. <3>
'A' - SY 70808475. Grass-covered, with a markedly flat top. Diameter 17.5m by 16.0m, height 1.4m to 2.8m Ditch and lynchets ploughed out. 'A', 'B' and 'C' re-surveyed at 1:2500 on M.S.D. <4>
Bronze Age barrow, visible as a low earthworks on aerial photographs <7-9>. One of a group of barrows at Northdown Barn. The site was digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.

'(R.13) NORTHDOWN BARN GROUP (SY 78 SW). Five bowls on the S. side of the Ridgeway along the narrow col between West Hill and East Hill Groups. A mound (LVG 48) at 70728481 is probably spoil from an adjacent pit. The barrows are in Weymouth and Poxwell. (419) Ditched bowl (70798474) 80 yds. S.S.E. of Northdown Barn. Diam. 54 ft., ht. 3 ft., with ditch 12 ft. wide and 1 ft. deep. Markedly flat-topped, and probably disturbed. On N. and S., ditch overlain by lynchets butting against mound (Ancient Field Group (10)); and also dug into on S., adding to 'causewayed' appearance. '

Diameter 17.5m x 16.0m, ht. 1.4m to 2.8m. Unploughed and grass covered with gorse. Hollow in top. Surrounding field in kale. Perimeter steepened by basal ploughing. Visible as a low rise. 1/2/C
