Full Description
A boundary marker between Abbotsbury and Portland parishes. Predates 1788, when Robert Attwool was paid half a guinea to cut the inscription. Made from Portland stone. The only parish boundary marker required for Portland as Chesil Bank is the only physical link to the Dorset mainland. The ceremony of 'Beating the Bounds' is still celebrated from time to time on Ascension Day. (1)
