Full Description
Occupation debris, Iron Age A to late Roman, comes from allotments and gardens adjoining St Andrews Church. Iron Age A and Roman sherds, the latter including Samian and 4th century ware, were found immediately SE of the church, SY 68707016, and in the garden of Coombe Ridge, SY 68717022. Scrapers and flakes of Portland chert, a quern stone, a flint hammer stone and a three-lugged mortar were also uncovered. Similar pottery and chert comes in smaller amounts from plots examined at SY 6875 7015 and 68767019. <2>
