Full Description
Milner, J K, 1990, Letter from J K Milner (Parish Ancient Monuments Liaison Officer) dated 12 October 1990 (Verbal communication). SDO21152.
‘I have found a very distinct cropmark of an earthwork in the parish of Woodlands. Martin Green looked at it yesterday said it is a ‘ring ditch’. The dark circle of the ring has an external diameter of approx. 19m and the width of the dark circular band is approx. 1m. The 8 figure GR of the centre of the circle is SU 0299 0973. The field is at present arable and in chalky soil on top of the chalk.’

‘A NEW RING DITCH IN WOODLANDS PARISH
During autumn cultivations this year (1990) one of the writers (J.M.) noticed the soil mark of a ring ditch on the north side of Knowle Hill at SU02990973. On investigation its diameter was revealed as 19 metres and the width of the ditch about one metre. This ring ditch is on the periphery of the Great Barrow cemeteries which cluster around the Knowlton Henges only 300 metres or so to the north-west.’
