Full Description
SU 0267 0890. A small rectilinear enclosure, possibly representing an Iron Age square barrow, is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs, and has been mapped by EH's Knowlton Circles Project. The enclosure is defined by a single ditch 12.3m x 11.3m. Another similar enclosure or square barrow lies immediately adjacent (SU 00 NW 99) and both are associated with larger enclosures(SU 00 NW 100) and a linear boundary or trackway (SU 00 NW 101), probably of similar date. (2-3)
SU 0268 0891. A small rectilinear enclosure, possibly representing an Iron Age square barrow, is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs, and has been mapped by EH's Knowlton Circles Project. The enclosure is defined by a single ditch 8.5m x 8.3m. Another similar enclosure or square barrow lies immediately adjacent (SU 00 NW 98) and both are associated with larger enclosures (SU 00 NW 100) and a linear boundary or trackway (SU 00 NW 101), probably of similar date. (2-3)
Enclosures visible on aerial photographs correspond to a concentration of Iron Age and Romano-British pottery recorded during fieldwalking, and are thought to be the site of a settlement. Other material found on the site included pieces of three quern stones and a bronze brooch of Iron Age date (1). Two small rectilinear ditched enclosures were digitally plotted during the Dorset Stour NMP (3-4). They are 13m by 12m and 9m by 7m in size and are associated with other linears and irregular cropmarks (see also, MDO40089 and MDO40090).

'Field A9. North of North Farm, SU 027089.
Iron Age and Romano British Settlement Area.
Aerial photographs of the field (RCHM and DCM) show a possible enclosure ditch and other activity in this field. Fieldwalking produced Iron Age and Romano-British pottery, three fragments of quernstones, and a La Tène I bronze fibula. The brooch, which appears to be Hull’s type 1A (Hattatt 1985, 10-12), has a loosely-wound spring, highly-arched bow, and a foot disc with a mineral mount. It has been broken at the second coil of the spring.'
