Full Description
SU 0158 0964. A rapid examination of air photography suggests the presence of a round barrow site, of Prehistoric or Roman date, visible as a ring ditch cropmark, in the river valley north of Stanbridge Mill Farm. <3-5>
Noted by Grinsell in 1982, when he measured it as 22 paces in diameter. Ring-ditch assumed to be a levelled barrow. <1>
The site lies within an arable area and is not visible as a surface feature. Not recommended for scheduling. <7>
The site of a round barrow is visible as an earthworks on aerial photographs and lidar imagery <6, 8>. It lies 780m to the WSW of the southern henge of Knowlton Circles and is an outlier to the extensive Knowlton Circles Barrow Group. The outer ring ditch is 31m across, it was digitally plotted during the Dorset Stour NMP.
