Full Description
The site of a ring ditch identified from an aerial photograph and recorded as being 27 paces in diameter by LV Grinsell. There was no visible trace of the feature on the ground in 1986, and it has not been recommended for scheduling. The area is now occupied by a cattle trough and the whole area reduced by tread. Ground photo with MPPA archive report <6-7>.
SU 0195 1012. A Bronze Age round barrow defined by a single ditch 27.5m in diameter is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs and has been mapped by EH's Knowlton Circles Project. This barrow is associated with the extensive barrow cemetery known as the Knowlton Circles Barrow Group. <1>
A ring ditch at Knowlton, Woodlands, is visible as a cropmark on a 1977 aerial photograph <2>. The feature is semi-circular, measuring 29m by 28.5m and truncated on its southwest side by a historic field boundary. The ditch is faintly visible extending beyond the field boundary to the southwest.
The feature is one of a group of similar features at this location and is probably a Bronze Age barrow. It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
