Full Description
A group of three ring ditches just south of Knowlton Circles, in an area of bowl barrows. `A' - SU 02250948. Double concentric ring ditch.<1>
A rapid examination of air photography <3-5> suggests the presence of a fourth, smaller ring ditch ('D'), visible as a cropmark at SU 0224 0956. <2>
The four round barrows described by authorities 1-2 have been mapped from aerial photographs by EH's Knowlton Circles Project. Their locations and dimensions were fixed more accurately by that survey: A - SU 0225 0948; inner diameter 15m, outer diameter 25m.
These barrows are part of a much larger group of round barrows extending southwards from the Knowlton South henge. <5-6>
The site of plough levelled Bronze Age round barrow is visible as a cropmark double-concentric ring ditch on aerial photographs <7-8>. It lies to the south of the southern henge of Knowlton Circles and is one of the extensive Knowlton Circles Barrow Group. The outer ring ditch is 25m across and the inner 14m; it was digitally plotted during the Dorset Stour NMP.
