Summary

A Bronze Age bowl barrow. In 1975 this monument was reported as being around 70 feet in diameter, the mound levelled by ploughing. The site of the round barrow is visible as a cropmark double-concentric ring ditch with internal mound on aerial photographs . It lies to the southwest of the southern henge of Knowlton Circles and is one of the extensive Knowlton Circles Barrow Group. The outer ring ditch is 27m across, it was digitally plotted during the Dorset Stour NMP.

Full Description

A Bronze Age bowl barrow. In 1975 this monument was reported as being around 70 feet in diameter, the mound levelled by ploughing (1). The site of the round barrow is visible as a cropmark double-concentric ring ditch with internal mound on aerial photographs (2-3). It lies to the southwest of the southern henge of Knowlton Circles and is one of the extensive Knowlton Circles Barrow Group. The outer ring ditch is 27m across, it was digitally plotted during the Dorset Stour NMP.

'Barrows (29-38) lie S. and S. W. of the South Circle on both sides of the Cranborne-Wimborne road. One of them, when partly levelled, appears to have yielded skeletons (G. A. Cooke, Topographical Description of Dorset (c. 1818), 151). (33) Barrow (02200961), levelled by ploughing; diam. about 70 ft.'
