Monument record MDO6423 - Bronze Age round barrow, Matterley Cottages, Woodlands

One of a small group of ring ditches visible as crop marks on aerial photographs and interpreted as the remains of round barrows, much reduced by ploughing. This monument is reported as being around 45 feet in diameter. The barrow was digitally plotted from aerial photographs during the Dorset Stour NMP. It is 17m across and appears to have been truncated by the linear described in MDO40080.

Three barrows E. of Matterley Cottages have been levelled by ploughing, but are visible as ring ditches on air photographs (NMR, SU 0209/5/186-87). (27) Barrow (02380920); diam. About 45 ft. The barrows have been mapped from aerial photographs by EH's Knowlton Circles Project, and their location and dimensions have been recorded more accurately. (27) SU 0243 0919; 16.4m in diameter. <3>
