Monument record MDO6386 - Bowl Barrow, Oakley Down Group, Wimborne St Giles

Please read our .

Summary

A mound identified as possibly a bowl barrow excavated in the 1880s by Colt Hoare, who found a cist containing 'burnt bones and nails'. In 1954 the barrow was described as being around 8.5 metres in diameter with a mound 0.2 metres high; no trace of an encircling ditch could be seen at this time. It has also been suggested that this mound may be an isolated surviving fragment of a late prehistoric field system.
