Monument record MDO6377 - Possible Barrow, Oakley Down Group, Wimborne St Giles

Please read our .

Summary

One of two irregular, elongate mounds within the Oakley Down barrow group, immediately west of the Ackling Dyke Roman road. In 1975, the RCHME reported the monument as measuring 90 feet long by 38 feet wide (but formerly larger), and 4 feet high. It was considered unlikely by RCHME that this earthwork is a barrow, a conclusion that echoed Grinsell’s 1959 doubts.
