Full Description

A bowl barrow, one of a group of three dug into by William Cunnington in the early 19th century. It was described by RCHME as a mound 64 feet in diameter and 4 feet high, with some traces of a surrounding ditch. Both RCHME and Grinsell state that Cunnington found a primary cremation, although Cunnington himself (quoted by Colt Hoare) refers only to a "simple interment of burned bones". The other two barrows dug into by Cunnington are recorded as SU 01 NW 56 and 217. This barrow was originally recorded as part of SU 01 NW 56. <1-3>
