Full Description
(Centred SU 01451625) Tumuli (NR). <1>
(87) Bowl (01491626), now almost levelled by ploughing; diam. 30 ft., ht. under 1 ft. <2>
Wimborne St Giles 87: possible Iron Age square barrow. <4-5>
Urn sherds, one with part of a Cordon, and minute flecks of burnt bone were found after ploughing the barrow at ST 0152 1631 (RCHM Mon 89). <3>
Air photographs suggest that the ditch surrounding the mound is square rather than round, prompting suggestions that the monument may be of Iron Age date. The barrow group itself comprises 5 barrows, 3 of them in a line. The other 4 were previously recorded here but have now been recorded separately. See also SU 01 NW 79.
