Summary

A round barrow of a type known as a bowl barrow. In 1975 this monument was reported as being approximately 55 feet across and 5.5 feet high. One of a group lying very close together in a northwest-southeast line beside the road from Edmondsham to Wimborne St Giles. The mound is no longer round, its north-eastern side having been reduced by ploughing. The barrow may be same feature visible on a 1997 aerial photograph and digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project and recorded under MDO40272.

Full Description

A Bronze Age bowl barrow, one of a group of four (see associated monuments [Note: ie MDO6298, MDO6299 & MDO6300]) lying very close together in a northwest-southeast line beside the road from Edmondsham to Wimborne St Giles. All four are covered with trees and undergrowth. This is the most southeasterly of the group. RCHME described it as a mound 55 feet in diameter and 5.5 feet high, damaged by ploughing on the northeast. [NB this barrow was formerly recorded as part of SU 01 SW 26].

The barrow may be same feature visible on a 1997 aerial photograph and digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project and recorded under MDO40272. <3>
