Monument record MDO6297 - Bowl barrow, Wimborne St Giles

Please read our .

Summary

A round barrow of a type known as a bowl barrow. The barrow was reported in 1975 as being around 70 feet in diameter, 5.5 feet high and flat-topped, planted with trees. The mound appears to have been deliberately planted with trees, presumably as part of the landscaping around Wimborne St Giles' house. Two large blocks of sarsen lay near the edge of the mound on the northwest and southeast sides. Grinsell referred to the two large sarsens being on the mound. The barrow mound is visible on a 1997 aerial photograph and was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
