Summary

A Bronze Age round barrow of a type known as a bowl barrow, located north of St Giles's Park and east of the village of Wimborne St Giles. The mound is now encircled by a tree-ring, planted with further trees and incorporated into the design of the landscaped park around Wimborne St Giles' house. The barrow was reported in 1975 as being around 30 metres in diameter and just over one metre high. The barrow mound is visible on 1980s and 1990s aerial photographs and was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

(SU 03781217) Tumulus (NR). <2>

SU 03781217 A bowl barrow, north of St Giles's Park, is enclosed in a tree ring and planted with trees; diameter 100 feet, height 4 feet. <3>

The barrow mound is visible on 1980s and 1990s aerial photographs <4 and 5>. A 1989 aerial photograph shows a low grass covered mound around 55m in diameter and with a slight truncation on its sourtheast side <4>. By 1997 the mound is under tree cover <5>.

The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
