4.4 Trench 4
F402 was an approximate NE-SW aligned probable ditch. Its visible dimensions were width of 1.40m and depth of 170mm. The profile showed as gradually sloping onto a flattish base. Its fill (context 403) was composed of a dark brown sandy silty clay with occasional small rounded gravel fragments. No artefacts were recovered, although it is considered that the ditch represents a boundary ditch dating to when the field divided into smaller land units and is likely to be post-Medieval in date.’
