Full Description

Numerous Mesolithic flint implements, indicating a habitation site, have been found by Martin Green and Barry Lewis on Woodcutts Common in an area centred at ST 966172. The finds included 30 tranchet and non tranchet axes, 25 picks and some Portland and upper Greensand Chert artifacts. Also found were small numbers of Neolithic axe fragments and leaf and transverse arrowheads. The finds are in a private museum at Down Farm (ST 999149).

'Woodcutts, Site 2, ST 966172. This site has produced many finds; they include: 1 tranchet axe; 2 picks; 1 pick trimming flake; about 60 retouched or utilised flakes; about 40 core-trimming flakes; a dozen scrapers and about 200 waste flakes. The picks and pick trimming flake are very similar to types from Portland (Proceedings, Vol. 90, pp 191-5).'
