‘B.970.K447 is a charter whereby king Edwy grants to the monastery at Shaftesbury 90 hides of land at various places, including Heanlegen, “High Lea”, at the reputed date A.D.956.’
The extant copy of the charter dates probably from the middle of the 11th century, just before the close of the Saxon age, or is a copy of a document from that date.
This marker stone is identified as Pegan Beorh in the charter and is identified as Wor Barrow, due east of Handley village.
