Monument record MDO6066 - Roman building, Minchington, Sixpenny Handley

In 1868 the remains of a Roman building and occupation debris were found in a field called Oak Hill. The sandstone footings of a wall were discovered and other material, described as painted wall plaster, tesserae, large stone roofing slabs, and coins. This suggests a high status building, possibly a villa.

'(23) ROMAN BUILDING AND OCCUPATION DEBRIS, found in 1868 'in a field called Oak Hill' near Minchington, included sandstone wall footings, wall plaster painted with red and green borders, some small red and white tesserae, large stone roofing slabs, and coins (Hutchins III, 547).'
