A small number of sherds of prehistoric and Roman pottery and a Roman coin found in a molehill. The Roman pottery was Black Burnished and New Forest ware, while the coin was from the 3rd century AD.

Full Description

'A single mole hill in the region of the eastern corner of the earthwork enclosure west of Badbury Rings hillfort produce five sherds of prehistoric and Roman pottery and a Roman coin (ST961029). The prehistoric sherd is of a black sandy ware with reddish-brown exterior decorated with a row of four circular impressions 2.5 mm wide and 2 mm apart. The Roman sherds comprise three small scraps of Black Burnished Ware (BB1) and one in New Forest ware, probably the bead rim of a beaker. The coin is an antoninianus of Claudius II (268-270 AD), Consecration type, as RIC V, 266.

Other mole hills in the area had produced numerous water-worn pebbles of approximately 2-5 cm diameter.' (1)
