Summary

Plough-levelled Bronze Age round barrow visible as a ring ditch on aerial photographs. In 1975 the RCHME recorded this monument as having a diameter of approximately 75 feet. The record for this monument has been enhanced with support from Wessex Water. The feature is visible as a cropmark on a 1995 aerial photograph and was digitally plotted from this source by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Full Description

The feature is visible as a cropmark on a 1995 aerial photograph, where it appears to comprise a ring ditch approximately 43m in diameter <4>. The ditch itself is approximately 2.2m wide. A further 24m section of curvilinear ditch is visible within the ring ditch against its northwest side; this may be part of a second, inner ditch.The feature was digitally plotted from this source by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

'Park Lane Group (59-61) comprises at least four barrows, all levelled by ploughing and now visible only as ring-ditches on an air photograph (N.M.R., ST 9401/1). They lie on a gentle S. slope at about 125 ft. above O.D., just S. of Park Lane … (59) Barrow (95390152); diam. about 75 ft.'

This probable Bronze Age burial site is clear on aerial photograph NMR ST9401/1 and it was visible on the ground in 1975 when it was measured by Norman Field as 27m. dia. It lies on a south facing slope, west of a track called ‘The Drove’.
