Summary

A Bronze Age round barrow identified from an aerial photograph, on which it appears as a ring-ditch. One of three such monuments in the locality identified on the 1811 Ordnance Survey map. The record for this monument has been enhanced with support from Wessex Water.

Full Description

(Centred ST 960018) Three oval mounds, orientated NW-SE are shown but not described. (1-2)

No trace of the mounds in an area which is partly ploughed and partly under crop. Nothing visible on air photographs. (3)

'A' ST 96030203. The ring ditch of a ploughed down barrow, situated 400 yds W N W of Locust Clump, must be one of the three barrows shown on OS 1" 1811. Another ring ditch of similar characteristics to 'A' is visible at 'B' ST 96040199. (4)

'(57) Barrow (96030203), 400 yds. W.N.W. of Locust Clump, on a gentle E. slope, appears as a ring-ditch in an air photograph (C.U.A.P., XZ 18). This must be one of three barrows shown on O.S. 1811.'

A probable Bronze Age barrow site visible on aerial photograph CUAP XZ18 estimated diameter 20m the same size as 112, 037 which lies 10m SE of it on a gentle east facing slope. Three mounds are shown at this location on Ordnance Survey (1811).
