Summary

A mound possibly representing a bowl barrow located near a disused sand pit. Grinsell listed it as a doubtful barrow. Ordnance Survey field investigation in 1954 recorded a mound 10.6 metres in diameter and 0.8 metres high, with no trace of a surrounding ditch. In view of its proximity to the sand pit, classification as a barrow was felt to be doubtful.

Full Description

Mound 10.6 metres diameter by 0.8 metres high, with no surrounding ditch, situated on a ridge and immediately south west of an old sand-pit. In view of its position, classification of the mound is in doubt. <2>

‘Visible as a low rise in permanent pasture. The mound is in a good position for a barrow, visible from a distance just off the crest of the ridge. The ground in the area is uneven and there are several disused quarry excavations in the vicinity. May be upcast. Papworth MDJ TWA 13.2.1986.’
