‘The Badbury-Hamworthy Roman road, and a possible Bronze Age barrow near Badbury Rings. Mr. N. H. Field contributes the result of observation after the spring ploughing in the field east of the Pamphill-Shapwick parish boundary. The Roman road here, beginning its alignment to the Stour crossing west of Wimborne, has long been ploughed flat, but the side ditches showed clearly 84ft. apart centre to centre. The southern ditch, which meets the track on the near side of the parish boundary at a point 46 feet from the corner of the field by the modern gate, bisected what appeared to be the remains of a barrow (ST 95780297), represented by a ditch some 35 feet in diameter centre to centre. A section across the north side of this ditch showed it to be about 4 feet wide at top and cut some 1ft. 7ins. deep in the chalk below about 1ft. 3ins. of topsoil.’
