Summary

Iron Age necked enclosure. Consists of a sub-circular enclosure with an entrance at the south east, outside of which is a funnel-like area formed by ditches.

Full Description

ST 984091. A sub-circular ditched enclosure with wide entrance on the south-east is visible at Cock Crow Farm, just west of Ackling Dyke Roman Road, (RR 4c)., The entrance is protected externally by 'autennae' ditches which create a funnelled approach to the enclosure. For similarities in the layout of the enclosure see the Iron Age settlement at Gussage St. Michael (ST 91 SE 24), excavated by Wainwright in 1972. <1>

Moor Crichel 9. ST 98490913. Necked enclosure, area 1.6ha. Irregular and incomplete circle with parallel-ditched passage entrance about 40m long and 20m wide SE downhill. Adjacent Roman Road levelled. [Plans of comparable sites]. <3-4>
