Find Spot record MDO5767 - Neolithic hammer head from The Green, Holt

A perforated stone hammer head of Neolithic date found while digging a saw-pit. Reports suggest that the find was made at a depth of around six feet.

Found in the garden of CAPT BAMBER at THE GREEN. Large hour glass perforation. Black rock veined with quartz. <3>

Found by Mr C. HANN in c.1937 whilst digging a cess-pit in the garden of GREENLEA, HOLT. The find was made about six feet below ground level.

[SU02860385] Lt Cmdr Bamber pointed out the cess-pit. The hammer-head was not seen in DORCHESTER MUSEUM. <4>
