Full Description

(Centred SU 029052) Holt Old Park, mentioned in a document of 1595, is presumably older than the main Holt Park (SU 00 NE 23) which was recorded in 1485. "Olde Park Copse alius Aldermoor Copse" (SU 030051) and the names Lodge Hill and Lodge Copse (SU 029046 and (SU 031044) are significant. The Tithe Apportionment also shows a small field called "Park Close" (SU 032043), which probably lay outside the park.

No sign of embankment can be found on the apparent boundary of what is still a clearly defined area, and it may be that the park was never embanked. (1)

A map of c.1600 does not show the Old Deer Park, but does show the extent of the New Deer Park (SU 00 NE 23). However, the Old Deer Park is assumed to lie within the roads shown on that map. (2)
