Monument record MDO5751 - Lime kiln near Stanbridge, Hinton Parva

Please read our .

Summary

A lime kiln recorded as ‘limekiln’ on the first edition (1886-9) Ordnance Survey map, and ‘old limekiln’ on the second edition (1900-2) Ordnance Survey map. The date of this kiln is not known but it is most likely to be late nineteenth century. The site was visited in 1992-93 by Peter Stanier, who recorded that very little (1-19%) of the kiln structure survived in bad condition. It was not possible to determine what type of kiln construction this was. The digital Ordnance Survey map available in 2006 shows a feature at approximately this location, but it is not clear whether this represents the surviving remains of this limekiln.
