Full Description
An early seventeenth century gold signet ring with a fleur de lys device, found at Pilford Farm.
Metal detector find at a depth of about four inches on arable land. The crop had just been taken up and the field had not been re-ploughed. The finder also reported a 'bronze object which looks like a dagger tip' from the same area. The ring was found on 2 November 1992.
Judy Rudoe of the British Museum reports (letter 10 December 1992) that the ring is a 'standard type of personal signet ring (or seal ring) and probably dates from the early seventeenth century'.
