Summary

A Bronze Age round barrow. In 1975 this monument was reported as being around 55 feet in diameter with a mound about one foot high. The feature is visible on current Lidar imagery and was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Full Description

Round barrows: A bowl barrow, SU 04830038, 660 yards west of Holy Cross Abbey, Stapehill; diameter 55 ft, height 1 ft. <2>

'A'. SU 04820037. Bowl barrow, under trees and scrub; diameter 16.0 metres, height 2.0 metres. No visible evidence of a ditch. 'A'. Resurveyed at 1:2500 on M.S.D. <3>

The barrow is visible on current Lidar imagery <4> as a low sub-circular mound 15.3m in diameter. It is alaso visible on 1940s aerial photographs but is not clearly defined on these.

The barrow is situated in the corner of a modern plot that appears to be used as a community centre or business premises. The feature is still clearly visible on current Google Earth imagery. It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
